Agreed on all points. I highly recommend the Maid-Wrong at TriBecca’s Sandwich Shop - Becca has figured how to make this weird sandwich super delicious (with agrodolce onions, Muenster, and steak sauce aioli).

That sounds delicious and I've been meaning to check out TriBecca's - thanks for the recommendation!

This was so funny to read and exactly what I would expect a “sandwich” that looked like that from that particular part of America to taste and feel like.

I like a Maid-Rite. But you are correct that not all outlets are created equal and I haven’t been to this one. From your photos, it looked like your sandwich was served in a basket?? If it’s not wrapped in wax paper it’s just going to fall apart.

Yep, served in a basket and pre-topped with ketchup, which I understand is heresy according to Maid-Rite purists. The wax-wrapped versions I've seen online look much more appealing (they seem to have more grease/moisture than what we were served). I also hated the cornmeal-dusted bun, which doesn't seem standard.

Are these super common in the MidWest? I moved to Indiana last summer and haven’t heard of these until now! 🤔

It’s an Iowa thing that spread to Illinois, Minnesota, and Ohio with Maid-Rite franchises and to Kansas (with a chain called Nu-Way). I don’t think you’ll come across it in Indiana…you’re not missing much 😂

Don't bother sending that Sahara-desert concoction down South. I doubt that the wildlife in our woods will go near it. I certainly won't because I make a very delicious burger which is thick and juicy. Pair it with a chocolate milk shake and it's a very memorable meal.
